In loving memory of Peter, who passed away at the age of 81, at home, with his beloved wife, Jan, by his side

This site is a tribute to Peter. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

A Life Well Lived...

Peter was born 27th September 1942 in Diss, Norfolk. The middle of three siblings, Pam, older sister and David, younger brother.

Peter loved his sport growing up, particularly football, playing at county level for Norfolk and narrowly missed out on a trial for Norwich City FC.

After leaving school, Peter joined WHSmith and moved to Colchester, where he met his wife to be, Janet. Their marriage lasted 59 years and Jan was by Peter's side at his passing.

Peter moved around the country after promotion to store manager with WHSmith, first to Norwich, where he and Jan had their son, Jonathan in 1971. Then to Yeovil, Swansea (the home of his favourite Joe's Ice Cream), Bromley, Oxford Street and Waterloo Station. Peter left WHSmith in 1986 and the family moved to Seaton in Devon, to run the Vernon Cafe and Newsagents, with Jan's Mum and Dad, Joe and Vicky. Ever involved in Seaton Chamber of Trade, becoming chairman, they ran a successful business, up until retiring at the grand old age of 55.

Peter loved playing badminton and skittles for a local pub league and spending valued time with his granddaughter, Samantha as she grew up. His skill at making Smartie Trees and using those to help with her times tables was unparalleled. The time they spent together, teaching her to grow fruit & vegetables and their favourite, sunflowers, was incredibly special to both of them.

Peter always left a lasting impression on those he met, ever effusive and always with a wise word of advice to share. A caring, kind and gentle man, that changed many people's lives and made the world a better place with his presence in it.

Peter passed away at 8am on Saturday 27th July 2024, after a brave battle with Colon Cancer, developed after overcoming Prostate Cancer in 2022. He was at home, with Jan by his side, just as he wanted.

Peter leaves behind his adoring wife, Jan and his greatly loved son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Emma, granddaughter, Sammy and his granddog Buddy.

Always loved and never to be forgotten...

In love and light, rest in peace Peter x
